Prep work on the flooring inside the new multi-purpose room at Buckingham Collegiate Charter Academy continues Thursday. The former District Office, which sat empty for a decade after VUSD’s offices on Nut Tree Road opened in 2010, was demolished in 2021 to allow for new science classrooms, a robotics and engineering maker space and a multipurpose room with a gym and kitchen, allowing for meals to be prepared on site and not be transported from Markham Elementary School. The Buckingham campus has a gray and red color scheme with buildings made of stucco and bricks, a new lawn area in the quad and an overall expanded campus with new buildings. It then was the site of Country High School and Vacaville Adult School until both relocated and rebranded in 2020 as, respectively, Ernest Kimme Work Readiness and Alternative Pathway and Muzetta Thrower Adult Education Center. The site itself has a long history for VUSD, as it was down the hill from Vaca High’s original location and operated as the Ulatis Elementary School campus until closing in 2003. The new building features exterior metal paneling, cross-court and full-court basketball, space for volleyball and badminton, sliding 10-row bleachers, a seawall with memory blocks emblazoned with the names of alumni, and a walk-off grading area to allow students’ shoes to lose debris before entering.īuckingham, which moved to its McClellan Street campus last year, is set for a complete remodel by the time students return. One of the biggest new features at Vaca High is a second gym, currently under construction. Vaca High has several projects that crews at Capital Program Management and DL Falk have been working on over the summer, including renovations to the library and music, paving the sidewalk in front of the main office and equipping classrooms with new technology.Īlong with other sites, Vaca High has been given new interactive overhead projectors, speakers, front row systems to enhance audio and IDEA Screen whiteboards with laser arrays where teachers can use their fingers to make marks on the board to highlight text or write as the lasers use sensors to capture the finger’s path. There are also ports where teachers can connect HDMI or USB cables to their laptops and have them projected on the screen.
